Fancy shaping the law instead of practising it? The Law Commission is on the hunt for two new commissioners, one for commercial and common law, and one for property, family and trust law.

Good news for those worried they may not be qualified: the commission concedes that few if any candidates will have a wide track record in the area of law reform. They just want someone who ‘excelled in their chosen field’ and ‘will relish the experience of learning new skills’.

The bad news? You’ll have to deal with ministers and officials.

No doubt the £150,000-a-year salary will help ease the pain.
