Which? Legal Service is entering the wills market in a tie-up with law firm Blake Lapthorn.
The service uses an online questionnaire which takes customers through 1,500 questions tailored to individual needs.
Once the questionnaire is completed, a solicitor at Blake Lapthorn checks it and the customer receives a copy of the will and ‘a jargon-free summary in plain English’, Which? said.
Telephone assistance from qualified solicitors is on hand to help. Consumers with complex needs are advised to seek help from a solicitor and referred to the Law Society, Which? said.
The website service has been under construction for three months using a similar template to www.whichlegalservice.co.uk. It will undergo a test phase and a soft launch in May.
The cost is £89 for a single will or £129 for a mirror will. Which? Legal Service will target members through its six publications and Google adverts.
Steve Coyle (pictured), head of Which? Legal Service, described the service as ‘an affordable way to get a bespoke will’.He said: ‘Sixty per cent of people die without a will. We are targeting that market. It is a test phase to see what the consumer demand for it is. We believe there will be high take-up but we will test it first.’
