Fellow solicitors have paid tribute to a criminal defence practitioner who died on Sunday after being stabbed in the chest.

Lancashire Constabulary confirmed that detectives were investigating the killing of 51-year-old David Mark Edwards, who died in Chorley on Sunday night.

Edwards’ practice, Stanley H. Cross and Co, became part of Chorley firm Kevills Solicitors in October last year.

Kevills Solicitors partners Simon Robinson and Vicky Nicholson said on the firm’s Facebook page that staff were ‘shocked and deeply saddened’ by the news.

‘Dave was, as many people will vouch for, a talented criminal defence solicitor who we had known personally and professionally for many years,’ the post said.

‘Our thoughts and prayers are with David’s family and friends.’

Lancashire Constabulary said officers were called to an address on Parkers Wood Close at around 8.20pm on Sunday where Edwards was found with a stab wound to his chest. He died at the scene.

‘An investigation is underway and a 42-year-old woman from Chorley was arrested on suspicion of murder,’ it said. ‘She remains in police custody at this time. We believe that the incident is domestic related.’
