A criminal law practitioner group has paid tribute to one of its committee members, Simon King, who has died.
Announcing yesterday King's 'sudden and untimely passing', the Criminal Law Solicitors Association (CLSA) said King ‘was a voice of reasoned arguments, considered views and strong intellect’ throughout his time on the committee, which he joined in 2017.
The CLSA said: ‘He had an intrinsic ability to get to the heart of an issue and treated everyone he met with fairness and compassion. He was a force to be reckoned with in court and there are many clients who benefitted from his desire to ensure that the right result was achieved.
‘We were lucky to have him as part of the committee for many years. We are all saddened by his death and wish to extend our deepest sympathies to his colleagues at Elliott Mather Solicitors, his friends and most of all to his family of whom he was so proud.’
King joined Elliott Maher Solicitors in 1985 as a trainee, eventually being promoted to partner, then head of the Nottinghamshire crime team.
According his law firm profile, King's wide-ranging criminal law work had taken him from the magistrates' court to the Court of Appeal, Supreme Court and European Court of Justice. In recent years, he specialised in regulatory work, advising in relation to prosecutions brought by the Crown on behalf of agencies such as the Serious Fraud Office and Environmental Agency.
