YYou were quite right to devote two pages to the importance of solicitors applying to join the judiciary (see [2009] Gazette, 17 April, 10-11). It was just a shame that, in the same issue, the appointment of Lord Justice Collins as the first solicitor judge in the Supreme Court was given only a modest mention at the foot of the In Brief column.

His success deserves to be highlighted in large typescript to the whole profession. He has shown what is now possible to any solicitor entering the foothills of the judiciary.
