Slaughter and May human resources and training chief Louise Meikle has been appointed as one of five external members of the Solicitors Regulation Authority’s education and training committee, which is to conduct a fundamental review of training.

Meikle is responsible for the recruitment, development and retention of staff at the magic circle firm, and for all training activities for commercial lawyers. She is a member of the City of London Law Society training committee and was a member of the original SRA education and training committee, having been appointed in 2007.

SRA education and training committee chair Dr Susan Bews said: ‘The SRA’s education and training committee undertakes a critical function in the setting and development of standards for those delivering legal services, so that members of the public can be assured that they will receive high-quality legal advice.

‘In 2011 the committee will be playing a major role in relation to the fundamental review of legal education and training which the SRA, in cooperation with the Bar Standards Board and the Institute of Legal Executives Professional Standards, recently announced. These five members will bring a breadth of expertise to this vital and complex work.’

The other appointees are Damian Day, head of education and quality assurance at the General Pharmaceutical Council; Chitra Karvé, director of performance and development at the Parole Board; Sheree Peaple, head of Leicester De Montfort Law School; and Steven Vaughan, City Solicitors Educational Trust lecturer at the Law School of Cardiff University.
