Recruitment has begun for a new chair of the Solicitors Regulation Authority, with the successful candidate beginning their six-year post from January 2025.

The replacement for outgoing chair Anna Bradley will be paid £105,000 a year – the same as Bradley – and will be expected to work at least two days a week. They will chair eight board meetings a year and attend other events as part of the SRA’s remit.

Under the regulatory rules the chair position must be held by a lay member, overseeing a board of five other lay members and four solicitor members.

The job advertisement says the successful applicant will possess ‘intellectual curiosity and humility’. They will also have ‘political acumen’, excellent engagement and communication skills, and ‘have the intellect and commitment required to operate in what is a complex, fast-moving environment’. They must also promote a ‘culture of accountability, transparency, openness and debate in all that the board does’.

The deadline for applications is 13 May. Shortlisted candidates will face preliminary interviews with recruitment firm Odgers Berndtson and a final interview with a selection panel in London in June.
