A tribunal has found ‘inappropriate and offensive’ comments made on social media by a solicitor were antisemitic.

Farrukh Najeeb Husain, admitted in February 2014, represented himself in the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal where the panel returned its finding that Husain was in breach of Principles 2, 5, and 6 of the SRA Principles 2019.

The Solicitors Regulation Authority launched an investigation into Husain and his Twitter, now called X, account after it received a complaint from commerical firm Bevan Brittan, where Husain was employed at the time.

The tweets were published on Husain’s public profile. During the substantive hearing, Husain argued that his Twitter account was personal and no allegations should have been bought against him.

The tribunal found the allegations against Husain proved in full and found ‘some Tweets had been antisemitic’.

The three-person panel will hear submissions on mitigation, sanction, and costs before considering its final order on Friday.
