A non-practising solicitor is to due to appear in court accused of sexual offences over a 27-year period.

Alan Harris, from Plymouth, faces a total of 20 charges including indecent assault and sexual assault on males over 16, rape, and sexual assault on a female over 16.

The charges relate to incidents reported to have taken place in Plymouth between 1988 and 2015 involving nine people.

Harris, 70, has been summoned to appear at Plymouth Magistrates’ Court on 23 September.

The Plymouth Herald reported today that Harris was a former solicitor who represented defendants at the court. In a statement, Devon and Cornwall Police reminded people not to speculate or share information online which could prejudice proceedings.
