City firm Taylor Wessing won the award for best contribution by a law firm at LawWorks’ annual pro bono awards.

The firm was recognised for its ‘commitment and enthusiasm to investing in the community’, particularly through its work organising and staffing a weekly legal advice clinic at a Blackfriars community centre. Tina Buchan, a legal secretary and PA to Nicole Paradise, managing partner at city firm Nabarro, won the award for best contribution by an individual for her work organising the firm’s weekly advice clinic in Islington.

The award for best contribution by a partnership went to BPP Law School, the Employment Lawyers Association and the Apex Trust for an employment telephone legal advice line which helps people facing employment problems after having contact with the criminal justice system. Norfolk Community Law Service won the award for regional firms for its legal advice rota.

Lord Goldsmith, former attorney general and president of the bar pro bono unit, Lady Neuberger, former government champion of volunteering, and Guardian columnist Marcel Berlins were the judges.
