It’s never too late to spread your wings. Not for solicitor Patrick Burstall (pictured left, above), who spent 60 years working at the Hull law firm founded by his father but has now joined another practice in the East Yorkshire city.

The private client specialist, 80, has this week been appointed a consultant solicitor at Rollits, a commercial firm based in Hull and York.

Patrick Burstall joined Burstalls, founded by Bryan Burstall, in 1961 - the year John F Kennedy became president of the United States and the Beatles performed their first gig at the Cavern Club. He qualified as a solicitor in 1968.

When Bryan retired in 1978 Patrick became senior partner, a role he held for 42 years until 2020 when he stepped down to become a consultant. At that point, Burstalls passed into the ownership of its remaining partners and the family connection was broken.

Burstall is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, and a past president of both the Hull Incorporated Law Society, and the Hull Literary and Philosophical Society.

John Lane, head of the private capital department at Rollits, said: ‘Patrick’s arrival brings a wealth of invaluable expertise and knowledge to complement our existing private capital team. His experience and knowledge will help build upon our existing reputation as we continue to provide an excellent service to the clients we work with.’

Burstall said he was 'excited' to be taking up the new opportunity.
