Sport specialist firm Onside Law has taken a major role in the destination of one of golf’s biggest tournaments.

The firm advised on all aspects of the bid process to host the 2018 Ryder Cup, with a decision expected to be announced tomorrow.

Advice provided to all five bidders: France, Germany, Holland, Portugal and Spain, included information on bidding rules, the requirements of the bid and negotiating the conditional Host Nation agreements.

The 2018 tournament will be the first Ryder Cup to be played in continental Europe since Valderrama in Spain in 1997.

Onside Law partner Oliver Hunt said the project had been one of the major pieces of sports law work in 2010/11.

‘It has been a privilege to work so closely with the Ryder Cup,’ he said.

The competition to host the tournament, which pits Europe against the USA, has been fiercely contested, with many analysts favouring an emerging golf nation such as Germany, and others arguing in favour of Spain as a tribute to the late Seve Ballesteros.
