Another team from commercial firm Memery Crystal has decamped to an expanding US-based rival as the remnants of its owner RBG are rapidly broken up.

Global firm Haynes Boone announced this week the appointment of a group of seven capital markets lawyers following their departure from Memery Crystal. The cohort is led by partner Nick Davis, who has been appointed co-head of the Haynes Boone London office.

The other partners to move are Edward Baker, Robert Bines-Black and Nick Heap, who collectively bring decades of experience advising on high-profile deals across markets in the UK and worldwide. Three corporate associates have moved to Hayes Boone as part of the team transfer.

Haynes Boone said the additions fit with its commitment to grow its presence in London and expand in sectors such as oil and gas, mining, renewables and technology.

‘Driven by client demand, we are committed to growing our London office and further developing our global capital markets and corporate practices,' said Haynes Boone managing partner Taylor Wilson.

‘The addition of Nick and his team aligns with our strategic growth in the world’s leading legal markets and enhances our ability to serve clients in a globalised marketplace.’

Davis had spent 24 years with Memery Crystal, which was bought by listed company RBG Holdings in 2021 to add to its existing firm Rosenblatt. He has advised clients on flotations, equity capital fundraisings and M&A in key sectors, including oil and gas, mining, life sciences and technology.

Haynes Boone, which was founded in Texas, expanded into London in 2016, originally starting an office with 13 lawyers. With the addition of the new team this week, the London office now boasts 55 lawyers and is Haynes Boone’s fourth largest by headcount.

Former staff with Memery Crystal have moved to other firms since RBG announced it would appoint administrators after a disastrous collapse featuring boardroom disputes and tumbling share prices.

Earlier this week, City firm Fladgate took on a team of 25 staff, with the moving partners saying they were grateful for such a swift and decisive move amid recent uncertainties.
