A former City solicitor has been appointed a junior minister in the Ministry of Justice’s new line-up.
Jonathan Djanogly, a former partner at SJ Berwin, has become a parliamentary under secretary. The Conservative MP for Huntingdon was previously the shadow solicitor general and a shadow minister in the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform.
He is joined by former army officer Crispin Blunt, the Conservative MP for Reigate, who was formerly shadow minister for home affairs and counter-terrorism.
Henry Bellingham, a former shadow justice minister who had been expected to be appointed to the MoJ, has been given a junior ministerial position in the foreign office.
Kenneth Clarke was sworn in as lord chancellor and justice secretary last week. Liberal Democrat peer Lord McNally and former shadow justice secretary Nick Herbert were announced as middle-ranking ministers at the MoJ.
The portfolios of the team have yet to be announced.
Meanwhile, barristers Dominic Grieve QC and Edward Garnier QC – both Conservatives – were appointed attorney general and solicitor general respectively last week.
