Mystery continues to surround the legal sector consolidator firm Metamorph Law after the revelation that its leader has quit as a director.
A Companies House update states that executive chairman Tony Stockdale ended his directorship on Tuesday after more than six years in the role.
When approached to explain why the notice had appeared and what it meant, the company declined to comment. Stockdale is still listed on the Metamorph website as executive chairman.
Metamorph Group Limited has not filed its accounts for 2020/21, which were due by June this year.
Last month the Gazette reported that the group was subject to a winding-up petition from HM Revenue & Customs. Stockdale said the action had been a ‘shock to everyone’ but that changes would be made to avoid a repetition.
A notice in the London Gazette has stated that Beaumont ABS Ltd, a member of the Metamorph group, is also subject to a winding-up petition from estate agency Connells Limited, which claims to be a creditor. The petition will be heard later this month at the business and property courts in Leeds.
Beaumont is a specialist conveyancing brand that joined the group in April. It was previously part of the Legal Zoom network. The firm is Metamorph’s largest conveyancing practice with two offices serving 3,000 clients a month. Its accounts for 2020/21 are also four months overdue. Stockdale left as director of this company at the start of the month.
Metamorph is a network of 15 offices across the country employed more than 650 people. As well as a string of law firm acquisitions, in July 2021 it also purchased the legal network QualitySolicitors.
Other brands in the group include north west firm Linder Myers, Terry Jones in the Midlands and Verisona Law, Donnelly & Elliot, Parrott & Coales, Browns Solicitors, Knight Polson and Beeton Edwards in the south.
