A nationwide network of specialist brain injury lawyers, The Brain Injury Group, is set to launch this April, the Gazette can reveal.

The Brain Injury Group will work in tandem with other professional services that provide medical, rehabilitation, welfare and financial support to people who have suffered a brain injury.

The group is intended to become a marketing collective of non-competing firms. It has drawn up 65 separate geographical areas throughout England and Wales, and only one firm will be admitted for membership in each area.

Firms will pay an initial joining fee, followed by a monthly membership charge. They will be required to demonstrate a high level of expertise and understanding of brain injury cases, commitment to developing brain injury services in their local area, and agree to operate by an ethical code of practice.

Specialist brain injury lawyer Francis Lacy-Scott, a partner at asb law which has signed up to the scheme, said it marked a ‘significant step forwards’ for brain injury lawyers.

He said: ‘Brain injury law is a highly specialist sector but, unfortunately, it is often lumped together with other personal injury claims.

‘With the ongoing changes in the legal landscape, it is vital that brain injured clients and their families are provided with specialist technical expertise, together with advice and support in dealing with the huge range of problems they may encounter.’

Brain Injury Group director Sally Dunscombe said the group had already received a great response from lawyers wanting to become involved.

‘There is no doubt that we have generated considerable interest in this novel project and the reaction from brain injury support service specialists reinforces our belief that the Brain Injury Group is both necessary and welcome,’ she said.

The group’s website is expected to go live on Monday.
