Staff at Linklaters will be able to celebrate religious events that are meaningful to them without having to take annual leave under a flexible holiday scheme being introduced by the magic circle firm.
The UK Bank Holiday Exchange Scheme will enable staff to exchange the August bank holiday, Good Friday and Easter Monday for another time. The scheme will come into force on 1 May so staff will not be able to exchange Good Friday and Easter Monday this year, which fall on 7 and 10 April. Staff will not need to obtain approval from a partner or manager.
Angela Ogilvie, chief HR officer, said: ‘We know that flexibility and agility at work is important to our colleagues, and it supports our inclusive culture. This scheme reflects the diversity of cultural and religious events celebrated across the firm and enables people to flex their UK bank holidays to mark those events that are most meaningful to them, without having to take annual leave.’
Bank holidays were created under the Bank Holidays Act 1871, replaced by the Banking and Financial Dealings Act 1971. Christmas Day and Good Friday are common law holidays.
