A London law firm and a barristers’ chambers have collaborated to offer a new online fixed-fee legal advice scheme.

EDC Lord & Co and 6 Pump Court Chambers have launched ClickLaw24.com with referral agency Contact Law.

The service provides 24/7 access to online fixed fee legal advice on the most commonly sought areas of advice, including employment, criminal and family law.

The advice will be provided by the barristers, instructed by EDC Lord & Co.

Contact Law will refer clients seeking legal advice into the scheme.

It is initially available only in England and Wales, but there are plans to extend into other jurisdictions.

Andrew Isitt, dispute resolution partner at EDC Lord & Co, said: ‘We aim to fill a yawning gap in the legal services market for easy-access, low-cost, fixed-fee legal advice.

‘Our target market are people who are effectively excluded from accessing legal advice because they do not qualify for legal aid, but who cannot afford to pay hundreds of pounds for traditional legal services,’ he said.

Former Bar Council chairman Stephen Hockman QC, head of 6 Pump Court, said his chambers’ involvement in the scheme illustrated the ability of the bar to offer its services in a more cost-effective and flexible form.
