Tabloid columnist Katie Hopkins said she will appeal a High Court order to pay food blogger Jack Monroe damages of £24,000 over two tweets. Mr Justice Warby’s ruling in Jack Monroe v Katie Hopkins was one of the first to define the threshold for ‘serious harm to reputation’ introduced by the Defamation Act 2013. Warby noted that the case could have been resolved at an early stage with an offer of amends. ‘The costs would have been a fraction of those which I am sure these parties have incurred,’ he said. He ordered Hopkins to pay £107,000 on account of costs within 28 days.
