Jonathan Davis’ point about intolerant attitudes is well put.

Lillian Ladele was employed years before civil partnerships came into being. While not obliged to do so, her employers designated all existing registrars as civil partnership registrars. She made her beliefs known to the council, which allowed her to exchange such commitments with others. It was only later, as a result of complaints made by two gay registrars, that the council took action. No prospective civil partners were inconvenienced.

Both the homosexual registrars and her employers have shown themselves to be intolerant of her religious beliefs.
