The Gazette has launched a human rights LinkedIn group for solicitors interested in civil liberties and human rights issues in the UK and internationally.

The group, launched jointly with the Law Society’s international human rights team, will become a leading discussion forum for topics ranging from the coalition government’s ambitions for a British bill of rights to concerns about intrusive surveillance and data retention.

The group will take a particular interest in the popular uprisings and other forms of protest currently taking place in north Africa and the Middle East, where ruling elites stand accused of crimes against humanity.

The group’s launch follows a series of high-profile appointments to the Society’s human rights committee this month, including Bindmans partner Stephen Grosz and Equality and Human Rights Commission barrister Anthony Robinson.

The Gazette’s main LinkedIn discussion group topped 5,000 members this week.
