The Gazette is pleased to be official media partner for a series of cutting-edge lectures and debates examining key law reform issues in the UK.

The Law Society 2011 debate series will initially focus on marriage, privacy laws, super-injunctions and social care.

Members of the public, legal professionals and academics are invited to attend the first of the series, ‘Is this the end of marriage as we know it?’, which will take place at 6.30pm on 7 July at the Society in Chancery Lane.

A Q&A session will follow each debate, and drinks and refreshments will be provided at a networking reception from 8pm.

Society chief executive Desmond Hudson, who will chair the first event, said the debates are aimed at encouraging education, training and thought leadership.

He added: ‘This is also an opportunity for the Law Society to connect with members of the public and provide a platform for discussion.

‘With divorce rates skyrocketing, and civil partnerships increasingly in demand, the first debate in our series will consider the future of marriage in the context of existing laws and the law reform process.

‘Against the backdrop of government proposals for marriage reforms a panel of experts will discuss the changing face of marriage and the legal framework that surrounds it.’
