Although the most obvious response to the letter from David Enright is that the concept of justice cannot be reduced to a mathematical equation, it is nevertheless true that there are objective criteria that can be considered and evaluated in some way. Therefore the concept may have some merit.

However, it was immediately apparent to me from looking at the equation that the value ascribed to ‘Justice’ will clearly increase as the value ascribed to ‘Objectively Fair Tribunal’ decreases; in other words, the less fair the tribunal is, the higher the perceived level of justice (according to the equation).

I am sure there are many regimes around the world which would wholeheartedly endorse that view, but fortunately that is not yet the position in this country.
