I could not agree more with Mr Borman’s letter of 23 June.

Clients do ‘want something tangible’ to hold and be able to take pride in property ownership.

However I feel there is a bigger issue.

I simply cannot understand how any solicitor can act for a client in the sale/remortgage of their property without ever meeting them and without seeing any positive proof of ownership such as title deeds.

I too seek copy ID documentation and undertake AML searches but there are so many flaws with this.

Nothing can match a face-to-face meeting.

At a time when ID fraud is increasing, I don’t know how those solicitors can sleep at night, simply out of fear of becoming victim to such fraud.
