Fast-expanding Express Solicitors has bucked the trend of retrenchment in the personal injury sector by announcing bullish trading figures. Profit before tax climbed to £13.7m in 2022/23 from £9.1m in the previous 12 months. Income rose 28%, from £42m to nearly £54m.

The Top 100 outfit noted that it is ‘edging ever closer’ to its target of £60m turnover within the next five years.

Open caseloads have grown to around 25,000. Medical reporting agency Ontime, part of the Manchester-headquartered Express Group, saw income rise to £7.6m from the previous year’s £6.1m.

Chief executive James Maxey said: ‘We’ve had another great year, every part of the business has had its numbers increase this year. If we continue this way, we could be hitting our target £60m earlier than expected which would be amazing.

‘The acquisition of Michael W Halsall Solicitors in October last year has been a big factor in our success and another big development is the purchase and refurbishment of premises in Sharston, South Manchester which will allow us to keep expanding.

‘It’s also exciting that we have more growth locked in with the recent acquisitions of Amelans and Jefferies Solicitors, which will show up on next year’s figures. The opportunities before us are looking very good indeed. We are continuing to look at progressing the business, developing our people and recruiting the best talent so we can carry on with the important work we do in helping injured people.’

Express currently employs around 620 people.
