The chief executive of the Crown Prosecution Service appeared at an employment tribunal today where she is claiming discrimination on the grounds of age and sex against the CPS.
The employment tribunal hearing of the claim brought by Rebecca Lawrence will begin tomorrow following a reading day for the three-person panel.
The tribunal, which sat briefly this morning, heard that evidence and submissions should be heard within the five-day listing.
Lawrence’s employment as chief executive was announced in June 2019 and described as an ‘important appointment’. She started in September 2019 following the interim chief executive’s retirement.
Lawrence began her career in banking and joined the CPS after 20 years of experience in senior roles in Whitehall, including leading on health spending and climate change policy at HM Treasury. She is a former director of the Office of Security and Counter-Terrorism in the Home Office and director, terrorism and allied matters, for the Association of Chief Police Officers.
The CPS has been approached for comment.
