The Gazette opened nominations for its Legal Personality of the Year award this week, following the success of last year’s inaugural award.

The Gazette award forms part of a suite of Law Society Excellence Awards designed to recognise outstanding individuals and teams within the profession.

These include awards for solicitor of the year, in-house lawyer of the year and junior lawyer of the year.

This year the Society has launched a new Law Management Section (LMS) leader of the year award, open to in-house legal teams and law firms. Candidates do not need to be LMS members.

The Gazette is seeking nominations from individuals who have made an outstanding public contribution to the law or legal profession over the past year, which has resonated with the wider world.

Last year’s prize was awarded to Watford solicitor Des Collins in recognition of the settlement won for children and young people who suffered birth defects following Corby Borough Council’s negligent clean-up of the town’s former British Steel plant.

Nominations for the Gazette award can be made via the magazine’s website. Nominations for other awards may be submitted by post or online until Friday 19 August.
