I read with interest the variousletters pointing out that a claim form is a ‘statement of case’ and must be verified by a statement of truth.

The standard claim form, N1, has the following statement of truth at the bottom of the second page: ‘(I believe) (the claimant believes) that the facts stated in these particulars of claim are true.’

Completing this statement of truth verifies the particulars of claim (which may be blank if the particulars of claim are in a separate document) but does not verify the rest of the claim form.

Are all claims therefore defective?
