Henry Bermingham writes that the wrong expert can break a case, but litigators can avoid the pitfalls if they have the discipline to choose carefully (see [2007] Gazette, 8 March, 14). I would fully agree with this. Part of the choosing process should include looking at whether the expert has been trained to be an expert witness.



Gene Morrison, the recently jailed bogus forensic psychologist, failed our Cardiff University certified expert witness training programme, despite pulling the wool over the eyes of many judges. However, the 'inveterate and compulsive liar' - as the judge called him - managed to take our courses without paying our invoice and we have now written it off as bad debt.
