A north west firm in the midst of rapid expansion has said it wants to take on another 30 staff to grow one of its claims divisions.

Barings Law, based in Manchester, is recruiting solicitors, paralegals, administrators and legal support staff to work on its growing financial mis-selling caseload.

All the extra employees will be based at the firm’s Cardinal House headquarters, where Barings now occupies three floors. The building has become a hub for several legal business including claims firm Veritas Solicitors.

‘For more than a decade, I’ve been honoured to lead Barings Law with an amazing team, and I’m excited to add up to 30 more skilled staff to that team,’ said managing director Craig Cooper (pictured above). ‘What makes this recruitment drive so special is that it will coincide with our 15-year anniversary. This will enable us to continue to grow and champion fairness, which is what matters to us.’

Barings represents victims of consumer and business mis-selling on a no win, no fee basis. It also offers advice on data breaches, immigration and commercial litigation.

Its ongoing work includes a potential action on behalf of 3,000 members of the armed forces who are pursuing an action over a leak of their names and banking details following a cyber attack. Barings said earlier this year that it had written to the Ministry of Defence inviting it to settle.

According to Companies House, the latest accounts of Barings Limited are overdue, having supposed to be published on 28 June.

The most recently-published accounts, for the year to March 2022, show that the company increased the value of its work in progress from £10.2m to £26.1m in the space of a year.

Sums due to creditors with debts due within one year increased from £7.2m to £10.2m, while longer term debts had jumped from £1.2m to almost £13.5m.

The business had increased its bank loan and overdrafts by more than £12m, with longer-term loans secured by fixed and floating charges in favour of Dublin-based Claim Finance & Administration Co Limited. Staff numbers jumped during the year from 17 to 67.
