Oladipo Adelaja, called in July 1980, was found to be in breach of core duty 5 of the Bar Standards Board handbook in that he acted in a manner which was likely to diminish the trust and confidence which the public places in him or in the profession.

The BTAS said Adelaja ‘commenced unmeritorious applications’ against the London Borough of Islington including claims for damages and judicial review during the course of court proceedings.

The High Court granted an extended civil restraint order against him on 24 May 2019. The ECRO was further extended on 20 July 2021 until 23 May 2023.

The five-person tribunal also found that Adelaja failed to comply with court orders to pay £65,111.20 costs to the London Borough of Islington.

The reprimand sanction is open to appeal.
