The initial cohort taking a law firm’s housing diploma, believed to be the first qualification of its kind in the sector, has achieved an 84% pass rate.

Capsticks housing diploma, delivered by the firm's specialist team with support from external experts, aims to provide a practical understanding of the housing development process to a recognised professional standard.

The firm said the course, which is aimed at professionals already working in the sector, is the first of its kind.

Chimi Shakohoxha, head of housing at Capsticks said: ‘The Capsticks Housing Diploma is the most comprehensive programme of this kind currently available. As the consultation period for the amendments to the Social Housing (Regulation) Bill continues, we will remain forward thinking and plan for an agile learning experience for our next cohorts.’

The course covers planning, corporate finance, estate management, disputes, tax issues and instructing solicitors.

Henry Nettleton, graduate development officer at affordable housing provider Torus and a participant in the first cohort, said: ‘It’s been really helpful at breaking down some really complex themes that we have to face as housing professionals. They have been laid out simply and easy to understand.'
