The Law Society has been asked to nominate a member to serve on the records preservation section committee of the British Records Association (BRA).
The vacancy has arisen owing to the death of Colin Prestige, who represented the Society for many years.
The BRA was founded in 1932 and aims to encourage and assist with the preservation, care, use and publication of historical records.
Its president is the Master of the Rolls.
The issue of archiving documents of historical significance is of particular relevance to solicitors' firms, bearing in mind the introduction of electronic conveyancing, and the BRA has always sought to raise awareness of its activities among solicitors.
Additional details of the work of the BRA and the records preservation section may be found on its Web site www.hmc.gov.uk/bra.htm.
The Law Society's nominee will need to be a solicitor with an interest in archival matters, and ideally some experience in this field, who is prepared to commit time and energy to this work.
No remuneration is available.
Applications should be sent to Andrew Dobson, Constitutional Consultant, the Law Society, 113 Chancery Lane, London WC2A 1PL, LDE 56; e-mail: andrew.dobson@lawsociety.org.uk.
The deadline for applications is 2 July 2004.
