Matrix Chambers now boasts two members in the heart of Downing Street following the announcement that Sarah Sackman MP has been appointed solicitor general.

Sackman, who won the Finchley and Golders Green seat in last week's election, will support her Matrix colleague Richard Hermer KC in his role as attorney general.

Sackman said: ‘I am looking forward to working with the attorney general, Richard Hermer KC, in our joint goal of serving the public. We need to restore people’s trust in politics and the rule of law. This role is the next step in my work strengthening the rule of law alongside serving my constituents in Finchley and Golders Green.’

The solicitor general’s responsibilities include considering whether to refer unduly lenient sentences to the Court of Appeal and taking action when there has been a contempt of court.

Sackman was born in Finchley and Golders Green, and attended South Hampstead High School. She studied history at the University of Cambridge and gained her LLM (Master of Laws) from Harvard Law School. Called to the bar in 2008, she worked at Francis Taylor Building before moving to Matrix Chambers.
