Baker & McKenzie has strengthened its London Compliance & Risk Group with the addition of senior counsel Thomas Firestone, who has relocated from the firm’s Washington DC office.
Thomas Firestone is a former US Department of Justice prosecutor with experience in high growth and emerging markets. In addition to working in Washington DC, Firestone has also previously been based in Baker & McKenzie’s Moscow office.
Firestone brings years of experience in the areas of FCPA, white-collar and transnational criminal law to the London market. Working as part of Baker & McKenzie’s more than 50-lawyer London Compliance & Risk Group he will focus on conducting investigations, internal compliance audits, training, and developing compliance tools for companies doing business in high-growth markets.
Paul Rawlinson, London managing partner, said: ‘Tom’s unique high-growth market and prosecutorial experience adds weight to our compliance capabilities in London and will be of significant benefit to our UK and international clients seeking FCPA compliance, anti-corruption and effective risk management advice when doing business in high-growth markets.’
Prior to joining Baker & McKenzie, Thomas Firestone worked for the US Department of Justice, where he served as resident legal adviser at the US Embassy in Moscow and as an assistant US attorney in the Eastern District of New York. As resident legal adviser, he worked to improve US-Russian law enforcement cooperation, implemented technical assistance programmes aimed at strengthening the rule of law in Russia and advised the US government on policy issues relating to crime and corruption in Russia.
