Specialist IP firm, Appleyard Lees has confirmed the promotion of Robert Cumming (pictured) to the role of senior associate in the Trade Marks team and Richard Bray will become a senior associate in the Electronics and Software team.

Robert, who has a wealth of experience advising retail businesses in the beauty, fashion and music industries in relation to the protection, enforcement and exploitation of their IP rights, spoke at the IP and Retail Conference in London this month and will be representing the firm at the INTA (International Trademark Association) Annual Conference in Hong Kong in May.

Richard, who is based in the firm’s Manchester office, has particular expertise in physics and engineering, and advises a broad spectrum of clients, from creative individuals to global household names.

Appleyard Lees has also announced the appointment of Kate Hickinson as a senior associate in its Chemicals team in the Manchester office, as well as Alice Smart as an assistant in the Life Sciences team.

Kate, who joins Appleyard Lees from Astra Zeneca, has considerable experience in pharmaceuticals and has worked for a range of clients, from SMEs to global corporations. She has experience in filing and prosecuting patent applications directed to new chemical entities, chemical processes, formulations, solid forms and combination therapies.

Alice also joins Appleyard Lees from Astra Zeneca, where she worked as a regulatory chemistry, manufacturing and control associate, after completing her PhD in pharmaceuticals. Alice will report to Simon Bradbury, who heads up the firm’s growing Life Sciences team.
