Charity specialist and partner, Paul Voller, has joined VWV’s leading Charities team from Bircham Dyson Bell, where he has been a partner for the last 18 years.

Paul has deep and longstanding experience of advising a wide range of charity and other not for profit clients, particularly in relation to corporate and commercial issues. Many of Paul’s clients work in the fields of health and education, and he has acted for the largest charitable hospital group in the UK.

Paul will be based in VWV’s London office and becomes the 15th member of the rapidly growing and nationally respected Charities team. The team is widely recognised for work with charities and not for profit organisations by leading independent legal directories Chambers & Partners and Legal 500. Charity Finance also ranks the firm as a leading legal adviser to the Top 350 charities (currently ranked 3/350). This reflects the significant number of top 100 and top 250 charities the firm acts for. The team has provided legal consultancy support to the Law Commission on their recently published report on Technical issues in charity law.

Simon Heald, VWV managing partner, commented on Paul’s appointment: ’Our growing charity client base of over 1,000 includes many fantastic charitable institutions, including the British Library, Institute of Cancer Research, Harpur Trust, National Association of Citizens Advice Bureaux, City & Guilds London Institute, the Dioceses of Gloucester and Truro and the Soil Association.

’Paul will slot into our team perfectly, and will in particular support our sector specialisms including charities active in healthcare, the arts and education.’

Paul commented on his appointment: ’I believe that VWV is the ‘go to’ firm for the most complex and commercially sensitive work required by charities. I am very much looking forward to joining the committed and talented team of pragmatic charity lawyers and look forward to working with them to continue to develop VWV’s work in the sector.’

Legal 500 highlights Paul’s breadth and depth of knowledge and his approachable style. He is well known for his work in mergers, collaborative projects and challenging governance situations. Paul is also on the Charity Commission’s panel of interim managers.

In addition to Paul’s work as a lawyer, he is a governor of Box Hill School and a trustee of the Association of Governing Bodies of Independent Schools (AGBIS). He also sits on the Privy Council and Governance Committee of the Engineering Council and is a trustee of the children’s charity, CCHF Allaboutkids.
