Steptoe & Johnson UK LLP is pleased to announce the arrival of Ivan Gordienko as a partner in the firm’s London office. Gordienko, a native Russian speaker, will expand Steptoe’s growing Russian litigation practice in the United Kingdom.
Gordienko focuses his practice on international commercial litigation and arbitration. He has handled complex matters involving multimillion-dollar litigation for clients from Central and Eastern Europe, and has particular experience managing complex international arbitrations and litigations arising from corporate transactions connected to Russia and the CIS. Gordienko has worked with clients in a range of industries such as aviation, telecommunication, real estate, energy and financial services. Chambers Global has recognised Gordienko for his representation of Russian clients in London courts and arbitration venues.
’Ivan is an entrepreneurial lawyer who has generated a significant client following in a relatively brief amount of time,’ said Phil West, chair of Steptoe. ’His international litigation and arbitration experience and his ability to speak Russian will deepen the capabilities our London office offers to Russian entities.’
In January, The Lawyer named a Russian bank litigation Steptoe is handling as one of the top 20 cases of 2017. A London-based team led by Steptoe partner Neil Dooley is representing National Bank Trust, now owned by Otkritie Holding, in one of the largest disputes before the High Court.
Gordienko commented: ‘Steptoe has a terrific reputation as a litigation firm that handles high-profile cross-border work. I am pleased to be joining Steptoe, and I look forward to strengthening the firm’s London litigation team, especially on matters involving Russia and the CIS.’
Gordienko received his LLB in Russian law, with honors, from Novosibirsk State University in Russia and completed a graduate diploma in law and a legal practice course from BPP Law School in London.
