Global law firm Reed Smith welcomes the arrival of Dr Andreas Splittgerber as a partner in the IP, information and innovation group in Munich. Previously a partner at Olswang, Andreas will be accompanied by two associates and a secretary. Reed Smith has embarked upon a strategic expansion of its German practice in recent years, and Andreas’ arrival will further enhance the offering to clients in the jurisdiction.
“The arrival of Andreas deepens our data protection, privacy and technology law capabilities in the critical German market, and gives us another business-focused data lawyer able to serve the needs of our clients across Europe. The timing could not be better as clients in all industries set about planning and implementing BCRs and GDPR-driven changes. Andy’s work experience in the US will also help us deliver the global solutions that our clients need” said Mark Melodia, co-chair of the IP, Information and Innovation group.
Andreas has a very active practice specialising in digital media and entertainment, IT law, outsourcing, and data protection. He is also highly recognised in internet and social media matters. Andreas has exposure to a wide range of players in the industry including cloud providers, IT outsourcing companies and providers of internet platforms, as well as non-tech companies utilising IT or social media. At Reed Smith, Andreas will work closely with the data privacy lawyers and the entertainment and media industry group.
“Andreas possesses a strong mix of data privacy expertise and exposure to the media and entertainment industry which matches the firm’s strategic focus seamlessly” added Gregor Pryor, co-chair of the firm’s global entertainment and media industry group. “Our Munich-based entertainment and media lawyers have enjoyed an incredibly busy 2016 and we look forward to seeing this momentum amplified with Andreas’ arrival.”
Reed Smith has expanded its presence in Germany in recent years in response to growing client demand; adding an office in Frankfurt in 2015 to its existing Munich office which celebrates its 12-year anniversary this year. As part of the expansion, the firm has brought in finance, corporate, regulatory, private equity, real estate, and more recently with the hire of key individuals from King & Wood Mallesons: competition and litigation expertise. The arrival of Andreas will add a much-desired IT capability to the mix as well as a deep understanding of the media and entertainment industry.
“With the addition of Andreas to our Munich team, we are now almost 60 lawyers in Germany” said Stefan Kugler, office managing partner for Munich. “As the largest economy in Europe, Germany is an important market for many of our clients and we are thrilled to be growing the team and expanding our offering further. Andreas’ expertise and industry focus are a perfect fit for Reed Smith’s global footprint and client relationships.”
