Contentious probate expert Lewis Hastie has joined the Nottingham office of Nelsons Solicitors as an associate. Lewis, who qualified as a solicitor in 2009, has joined the expanding dispute resolution team, based in Stanford Street, following three years at Leicester-based law firm Shakespeare Martineau and two years at Rothera Sharp in Nottingham.
He said: ’Nelsons is a very respected law firm that is friendly, down-to-earth and more up to speed with technology than many other competitors, making paperless and flexible working easier.’
Lewis graduated from the University of Warwick in 2005 before studying for his LPC at the University of Sheffield. He has also been involved with the Institute of Credit Management since 2012, becoming a member a year ago.
He deals with disputes over the validity of wills and Inheritance Act claims, as well as civil litigation including claims for damages for wrongful detention and disputes with insurers.
He said: ’Contentious probate is a fascinating area of law and is growing significantly at present. It is very gratifying to help clients reach agreement with their opponents and to come out of a dispute with a very satisfactory result. The job is challenging yet interesting and varied. I particularly enjoy meeting clients and professional contacts. I’m looking forward to building on that in the short term and over time, helping to grow the contentious probate team in Nottingham as well as our profile for this exciting area of work.’
Kevin Modiri, partner and solicitor in the dispute resolution team, said: ’We are delighted to welcome Lewis to Nelsons, who has added a breadth of expertise to the department. I am looking forward to seeing him flourish in his new role – I know he will be a real asset to our Nottingham office.’
