Islamic finance lawyer Azlin Ahmad has joined Herbert Smith Freehills’ newest office in Kuala Lumpur.
Her appointment as senior associate coincides with formal licence approval from Bar Council Malaysia for the firm to open for business.
She joins partners Peter Godwin, Vik Tang and Glynn Cooper in the Kuala Lumpur team.
’Azlin is a great addition to our launch team in Kuala Lumpur,’ said Peter. ’She has over 18 years’ experience in Malaysia and the Middle East, in both Islamic and conventional finance, with skills that range from sukuk and murabaha to project finance and restructuring.’
’Her understanding of regional and international banks, corporates, regulators and governments active in the Islamic finance market makes her a valuable addition to the new office and the firm’s global practice in this area.’
Azlin will work closely with senior members of the firm’s Islamic finance practice, who will work in Kuala Lumpur on a regular basis.
Kuala Lumpur is Herbert Smith Freehills’ ninth office in Asia, and the 27th office in its global network.
With the new office officially open for business, Herbert Smith Freehills now operates across south-east Asia from four of the region’s most important business centres – Singapore, Jakarta, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur – handling matters for clients in and across all ten ASEAN nations.
