Martin Sandler

Eversheds Sutherland has appointed partner Martin Sandler to its financial services practice group.

Sandler has spent his career in-house, in private practice law firms and Big Four law. He has extensive experience in the regulation of asset management, banking, wholesale markets, transactions and markets infrastructure. He also has significant experience in wealth management, payments, fintech and crypto, consumer finance and insurance regulation.

During his career, Sandler has overseen advice on Brexit and other reorganisations, IBOR transformation, global regulatory mapping projects as well as the roll-out of regulatory changes such as MiFID II, BMR and EMIR. He has also provided regulatory input and advice in the context of many significant transactions in the FS sector. 

Sandler joins Eversheds from EY where he was an associate partner and lead financial services regulatory partner. Prior to joining EY, he was PwC’s head of financial services regulation having previously been a partner at legacy Berwin Leighton Paisner and Bird & Bird. He also spent 10 years at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where he was head of EMEA equity counsel and was head of UK legal and global derivatives counsel at NYSE Euronext.

Sandler has been involved in pro bono initiatives and advised on the regulatory issues around the establishment and operation of an affordable credit debt fund for vulnerable persons.
