Law firm EMW has appointed James Geary as the firm’s first managing partner in nearly 20 years.
Geary joined EMW as a trainee solicitor, before progressing to associate. His commercial law expertise has seen him advise businesses on trading agreements, competition law, data protection and intellectual property matters.
He returned to the firm as head of commercial after spending five years at The Wastepack Group as its head of legal.
Geary took on the role of EMW's head of business development in 2019.
Nick Lloyd, chair of EMW, commented: 'Given the rapid evolution of the legal market, the management team believe that EMW will best thrive under the stewardship and guidance of a lawyer, reinstating the first managing partner role in nearly 20 years.
'James has played a key role in driving the strategic direction of the business for many years and is the ideal person to lead EMW forward, further strengthening the USPs that set us apart in the marketplace.'
Geary added: 'EMW is an extremely strong business with fantastic clients and a dedicated and knowledgeable team - it is in excellent shape and I look forward to taking the firm forward as managing partner, delivering on an exciting and ambitious growth strategy.'
