City firm Mishcon de Reya is set to hire Labour MP and former director of public prosecutions Sir Keir Starmer QC as a legal adviser. The MP for Holborn and St Pancras is Labour’s Brexit spokesperson and has also previously worked for the firm.
It is not known how much he will earn for his role. However, according to press reports, he was paid £18,000 for 24 hours work with the firm last year. If approved, Starmer will work at the Mishcon Academy, which according to the firm is its ’dedicated in-house place of training, development, learning and new thinking’.
The firm said: ’We are in discussions with Keir Starmer about reappointing him as an adviser to the Mishcon Academy. His wide experience and previous association with the firm would enable him to play a key and unique role in shaping the work of the Academy, which leads new thinking and develops the potential of everyone in the firm.’
Mishcon de Reya brought the high profile Article 50 case against the government through its client Gina Miller.
Starmer is currently a member of Doughty Street Chambers.
