I agree with the views in your article on MBAs. Those running law firms need business skills.
But I have concerns about legal-specific MBAs. The key learning experiences of an MBA include working with people from different sectors and looking at what can be improved in your own. When low-cost airlines wanted to improve turnaround times, they did not look at other airlines, they looked at Formula One. It is important to look at different businesses and cover the full range of MBA topics – finance, management, marketing and operations.
Solicitors considering an MBA should look at the course and the other students and make sure they get the wide exposure they need.
