I read your article on self-lawyering with interest. I qualified in 2009 and, while I am busy at our branch office in Preston, the number of people undertaking their own probates or, for example, saying that Age Concern has offered to register the enduring power of attorney of a loved one at a price we simply cannot match, is concerning.

I come from a working-class background, had to take out a bank loan to fund my LPC and most certainly am not a ‘fat cat’. But I do agree with Andy McDonald that part of what sets us apart is all our training and our insurance-backed skills. If that is not being championed to the public, then I do wonder whether there will be an industry left in which to practise in decades to come.
