I read your article on self-lawyering with interest. I qualified in 2009 and while I am busy at our branch office in Preston, the number of people who are undertaking their own probates or for example saying that Age Concern have offered to register the EPA of a loved one at a price we simply cannot match, is concerning.

I come from a very working-class background, had to take out a bank loan to fund my LPC and most certainly am not a ‘fat cat’. I do however agree with Andy McDonald that part of what sets us apart is all our training and our insurance-backed skills. If that isn’t being championed to the general public, then I do wonder whether there will be an industry left in which to practise in decades to come.
