The thought of appearing before the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal is supposed to chill the blood. But staff at the tribunal’s Gate House headquarters (that’s the one over a bike shop in Farringdon Street) were clearly exceeding the call of duty last year.
According to the tribunal’s latest annual report, the body needed to upgrade its air-conditioning to reduce what the chief clerk calls ‘the incidence of blue fingers and toes in winter and red faces in summer’. Although the court refit was completed on time by February 2013, the ‘air con took much longer to resolve’.
Readers will be relieved to hear that the works will finally be finished this month – so the SDT’s clerks won’t be suffering another Bob Cratchit-like fate this winter.
