I have tried hard to promote the cause of the families of the 1974 Birmingham pub bombing victims (Justice4the21). Decades after the six had their convictions quashed, the families still have no justice and the guilty parties are still at large (if they are alive).

I know how hard it is to get the general public interested in a miscarriage of justice (Gazette, 11 June). Generating interest in the annual memorial (21 November) is also an uphill task.

As Martin Luther King said, ‘injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere’. I fully support the creation of the new all-party parliamentary group. But the pleas for funding are misleading. I do not believe either that the funding will come or that it will be sufficient. In the age of social media, where messages go viral in the blink of an eye, there are many free resources available to us already. It is getting ordinary people interested in these issues that is the stumbling block.
