Our news team gave themselves an earworm the other day by headlining a report about the US with a line from New York, New York. The only cure was to think what songs might be appropriate for other stories on the news agenda.

For example, Men at Work’s (I come from a land) Down Under would go well with the Australian buyout of Russell Jones & Walker and The Clash’s Train in Vain for most stories about new entrants to the profession. And REM’s It’s the End of the World as We Know It for almost anything about ABSs.

For the courtroom interpreters’ fiasco? Surely The Animals’ Please Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood.

Any more ideas? No doubt in the high-tech multimedia future (copyright law permitting) we’ll be able to incorporate them into the Gazette’s website. In the shorter term, we can offer a bottle of something fizzy for the best selection suggested by 12 April. Email: obiter@lawsociety.org.uk.
